Happy Canada Day!
In honour of our national holiday, I thought I'd share some of my favourite and most photogenic places from around my home province of British Columbia.
From mountainscapes and glacial lakes to sunsets and waterfalls, these top 10 summer destinations in Canada's westernmost province are just about as Instagram-worthy as it gets.
10 || Whistler Blackcomb
Don't be fooled into thinking this 2010 Olympic Winter Games venue is just for winter sports enthusiasts. Between Whistler and Blackcomb mountains, there are over 50 km of alpine hiking trails with breathtaking views of the surrounding mountains and lakes. Get your camera ready as you travel 4.4 km between the two mountains on the world record-breaking Peak 2 Peak gondola.
9 || Seton Lake
Seton lake is not well-known and somewhat off the beaten path, but if you're travelling along Highway 99 between Lillooet and Pemberton it's definitely worth the stop. This stunning freshwater fjord is such a gorgeous shade of turquoise-blue that it needs no filter.
8 || Big White
Big White Mountain is another destination best known for it's powdery snow in the winter, but provides an equally gorgeous setting during the summer months. Located in the Okanagan just southeast of Kelowna, Big White offers a nice selection of trails with rewarding alpine views.
7 || Brandywine Falls
It's no secret that waterfalls are always a popular subject on Instagram. Just a short trail walk off the Sea to Sky Highway near Whistler, Brandywine Falls is always worth the stop to capture a few photos on a sunny day.
6 || The Okanagan
With vineyards, lakes and sunsets to die for, it's hard not to take a great photo pretty much anywhere in the Okanagan.
5 || Nairn Falls
Nairn Falls is located just north of Whistler in Pemberton. A short hike along the beautiful and powerful Green River takes you to a viewing point where you can listen to the roaring sound of the waterfall, and of course, fill up the photo roll on your phone.
4 || Shannon Falls
Shannon Falls, which also happens to be right off the Sea to Sky corridor, is the third highest waterfall in British Columbia. Since it is fairly easy to access, it can get quite crowded. I'd suggest stopping by earlier in the day to avoid the crowds and catch the golden morning rays reflecting off the falls.
3 || Bridal Veil Falls
Bridal Veil Falls near Chilliwack is one of my favourite waterfalls because it's just so darn pretty. There is no rushing water. No loud roar. The water just falls delicately over the rock like the image its name conjures.
2 || Mount Revelstoke
Part of the Columbia Mountain Range, Mount Revelstoke is not only a hiker's paradise, but also a photographer's dream. As you head along the trails and to the summit you pass through several different types of landscapes including an old-growth rainforest, wetlands and alpine meadows, it's hard not to get #caughtgramming.
1 || Joffre Lakes
Joffre Lakes provincial park doesn't just offer one stunning turquoise glacial lake, but three. Yes, three perfectly photogenic glacial lakes. 'Nuff said.
