Last year we spent a long weekend in February visiting Ottawa. While we managed to walk along the Rideau Canal, check out ice sculptures during the Winterlude festival, tour the parliament building, peruse the Byward Market, and get some great photos, there were still a few more things we wanted to see and do in Ottawa.

When the opportunity came up to spend a couple more days in the capital this winter, we eagerly accepted. This time around, we visited the Royal Canadian Mint, walked to Rideau Falls, skated all 16 km of the Rideau Canal as the sun was setting, and admired the parliament building by night.

Although temperatures hovered around the -20ºC mark and driving conditions were somewhat treacherous, it was a great time of year to visit the city. After the Christmas holidays and before Winterlude kicks off, the city is fairly quiet, which enabled us to get a great deal on a hotel, a private tour of the Mint, and a less crowded skate along the canal.
