When we were at the Maple in the County Festival in Prince Edward County earlier this year, we also found out the region hosts an annual lavender festival during the summer. We marked the festival dates in our calendar and when July came around, we drove up to the County once again.
In anticipation of the festival, we searched online for images of lavender, which turned up stunning photos of endless fields of purple flowers. So, when we set foot on the local lavender farm, we were slightly disappointed by the small-ish patch of purple. Our disappointment quickly evaporated (maybe due to the extreme heat) as we were engulfed by the delicate floral fragrance of the field. We enjoyed getting a close look at the different colours and types of lavender before heading out for a glass of wine at a local winery.
We clearly really enjoyed the whole lavender and wine thing, because the next weekend we found ourselves in Niagara-on-the-Lake just in time for (you guessed it) their annual lavender festival.
