We recently spent a weekend in Ottawa and one of our favourite places to wander around was the Byward Market area. The market building itself houses a variety of cafés, eateries and specialty shops. Our go-to places were the Continental Bagel Company for fresh Montreal Style bagels and the Moulin de Provence, which offers an impressive selection of French pastries. The streets surrounding the market building are filled with many more restaurants and shops, including a couple of cheese shops with excellent selections. Popping in and out of the market and the various stores provides a welcome break from the harsh winds and the -20ºC temperatures of winter in the capital.
